Barranquilla
Barranquilla is the Caribbean end of Colombian football, a port city on the Magdalena where the game is loud and local. The MCC Barranquilla tournament is a single ground, La Jaula, taking up to 128 teams through five weeks that begin on 9 April 2027 and end on 9 May. One city, one ground and one Pitch Champion, whose road continues to the World Final on 7 July.
One ground, one champion
Two halves of 15 minutes on a stop clock. Every team plays three group matches in a group of four, and the top two go into the playoffs, where a tie level after two halves goes to penalties. Five weeks of football leave Barranquilla with its Pitch Champion, who goes straight to the Country Championship.

Futsal and microfútbol on the Caribbean coast
Barranquilla is the home of Junior, the club that plays at the Estadio Metropolitano, and the city follows it closely. Day to day, though, the football that most people take part in is five a side on short courts: microfútbol in the barrios, futsal at sports clubs, office teams that book a court for the evening once the heat has dropped.
A team from Soledad, Puerto Colombia or Malambo is as welcome as one from the city proper. Players must be amateurs, a squad holds nine at most, and each entry names a Team President; a habit of short-court football is the only other requirement.
One ground, La Jaula
Unlike its Colombian sister cities, Barranquilla has a single ground. La Jaula is the one place where the round is played, and it takes 64 to 128 teams through groups of four and the playoffs. Every team in the city and the metropolitan area enters the same competition, so a side from the north of town meets one from the south.
Nothing is announced for La Jaula until a pitch owner has been through MCC's programme and an agreement is signed. The venue's name then appears on this page, and the ground card above shows where that stands for now, so check it before you plan travel.
Heat, the rainy season and the Country Championship
April and May in Barranquilla are hot and humid, and rain becomes more frequent as May goes on. The group stage fills the weekends of 9 to 11, 16 to 18 and 23 to 25 April, with every team playing three matches in its group of four.
The Barranquilla champion then meets the winners from Bogota and Medellin in the Colombian national event, 28 to 30 May 2027. A South American stage is next, with the World Final on 7 July 2027. A team that finishes first in the city therefore has a long season ahead of it, and one that goes out early has still played a full group of four.
A single bracket for the whole coast
Cups on the coast tend to be one-day affairs. This one stretches over five weeks, publishes its format in advance, pays the Pitch Champion $20,000 and gives that champion a next stage to play. All players must be amateurs, a Team President is named on each entry, and misconduct is dealt with by a zero-tolerance policy that can end in revocation without refund.
