Whoever hosts runs an amateur 5-a-side competition of 64 to 128 teams over the five weeks from 9 April 2027, with MCC supplying the format, the entries and the prizes. What a Melbourne venue is asked to do
Groups take three April weekends, playoffs follow, and the ground final lands on 9 May. Each match occupies a 40-minute slot, so a site with several courts can carry the full 128 teams while a smaller site can take a ground closer to 64.
How the Melbourne grounds divide the city
North Melbourne covers Brunswick, Preston and Coburg out toward Epping. East Melbourne takes in Camberwell, Box Hill and Ringwood. West-South Melbourne spans Footscray, Sunshine and Altona through the bayside to Moorabbin. Venues apply for whichever of the three areas contains their site. Applying as a Melbourne pitch owner
Melbourne pitch owners use the pitch owner application. MCC settles on a single venue for each ground and signs its agreement with that site alone. From then on the venue is shown on the Melbourne page for teams entering the ground, while unfilled grounds keep showing as open.
