Host a tournament in Sydney

Sydney needs three venues, one for each of the North, Western and South grounds. Hosting means running a 5-a-side tournament for 64 to 128 amateur teams across the five weeks from 9 April 2027; the format, fixtures, entries and prizes are supplied. Managers of synthetic fields, futsal courts or indoor halls around Sydney are who this page is written for.

What a Sydney venue takes on

A ground needs enough pitch time for group matches on three April weekends, then playoffs ending in the 9 May final. At 40 minutes a match, a site with several small pitches can run a full ground, while a smaller site can host one closer to the 64-team minimum. Sydney venues of both kinds are welcome to apply.

Where the Sydney grounds sit

North Sydney spans the lower north shore, Chatswood and the northern beaches side. Western Sydney centres on Parramatta, Blacktown and Penrith. South Sydney covers the St George area, Sutherland Shire and the inner south. A venue applies for the area it sits in, and the live cards on the Sydney city page show which grounds have a confirmed venue.

How to apply from Sydney

Sydney pitch owners come in through the pitch owner application. Only one venue is confirmed per ground, and MCC signs a venue agreement with it. The Sydney page then carries the venue's name, so teams entering that ground know where they will play, and every other card stays open until then.

Questions from Sydney venues

Can an indoor futsal hall host a Sydney ground?

A futsal hall within the area of North, Western or South Sydney can put itself forward through the pitch owner application. One venue per ground is confirmed, an agreement is signed with it, and its name then appears on the Sydney city page.

How many pitches does a Sydney venue need?

That depends on the ground. Four-team groups play three matches each over three weekends, so several small pitches suit a full 128-team ground, and a site with fewer can host a ground of at least 64 teams.

Who supplies teams and referees at a Sydney ground?

Teams enter on the MCC site and are placed into groups by MCC. Referees and crew come through the join page, and teams never appoint them. What a Sydney venue provides is the pitches, for matches in 40-minute slots on the fixture dates.
